Eventually She Has to Sleep….. Right?

Baby is sick.  Double ear infections.  She has been on antibiotics for a few days now so I would hope that the pain would be decreasing. She refuses to sleep.  the ears are probably part of the problem but the main problem is that she does not hold still long enough to fall asleep.  Before she could crawl she would lay in her crib, maybe fuss a little bit, but she would fall asleep within five minutes.  Now, the second I put her down she sits herself up then stands and starts shaking the crib. No matter how tired she is she will not lay down.  I can get her to sleep if I lay her on my stomach and hold her tight she she cant move but the moment she hits the mattress she is angry and awake.  I have tried to let her just cry it out.  Currently she is in her crib, sitting up and making this pathetic, desperate cry.  She has been in there for 40 minutes.  She is the most stubborn child I know.  Any tips will be greatly appreciated.  We all need some sleep and a happy baby.

So sorry Kait!! I know how ear infections feel...I used to have them ALL THE TIME when I was a kid. Every winter, without fail. They hurt so much!! I used to put cotton in my ears and lay with my ear down on my arm because if my ear was warm it felt a little better. I don't know how your little one can do this though!! :( So sad!! Poor kid!! Have you tried aroma therapies maybe? Certain scents help Jake sleep better for some reason. I hope you figure it out soon!!

I hate when they won't lay back down!!!!! Such a horrible stage, I never found a magic trick. I just tried my best to get them calm before bed and then every ten minutes or so I would go lay them back down. I remember it taking like an hour and a half, SUCKY! Hang in there!!!! And if someone else tells you something magical that works, let me know for the next one! :-)

I'm sorry kait. That is never fun. It sounds like maybe keeping her wrapped tight in her crib might help, so she can't move. Check out www.woombie.com , I've never used them myself (bc Gavin doesn't like to be held tight ) but I've heard so many people talk about how much they love them. Just a thought, don't know if it's what your looking for or if it would help, but thought I would pass it along. Good luck!

I am just glad I am not the only one dealing with this. Sometimes it seems like that. Thanks for the advice; she is slowly doing better.

I have never used these but I've heard Lavender essential oils work well for sleepless babies. I think you just put a little near where they sleep. Good luck. It's soooo frustrating when you can't get them to sleep!

BABYWISE. Worked miracles for me and my four children. They were the most content and happy babies and slept eight hours a night starting at two months old. Best nappers in the world and still are. I would highly recommend the book!!!
