I have a little brother that I rarely see. Chase is in the Air Force Academy and can only come home a few times a year and even when he is in Monticello we are usually not. He had the exciting opportunity to spend two weeks at Nellis Air Force Base and was able to leave the base during the Memorial Day Weekend. We decided that he was going to come hang out with us for a few days. Friday night Will and I headed to Vegas to go pick him up. Chase has never been to Vegas so we stayed the night. We went midnight bowling (I lost, as usual) and then taught Chase the exciting game of Bingo.
Chase is a cycling crazy person so of course some bike riding had to be done. We conveniently had three flat tires on our bikes so Chase helped fix them up.
We drove up to Snow Canyon and rode down into St. George. Addi had fallen asleep on the way there and was a bit grumpy the way down. Chase was trying to get me to go insanely fast down some of the big hills. I was slightly wimpy and hit the brakes quite a few times. I don’t know what happens when you get old but I am now more terrified of everything. It was a really fun ride, hopefully we do it again!
Addi saw that there were rocks to play on at the end of the ride and was very excited. She is obsessed with rocks. We climbed around for a bit and Addi learned how fun little rocks off of giant rocks can be (a game which Chase was very happy she liked). She is also fearless which is concerning. Without warning she would climb herself up a giant rock and yell “I did it”!
The next day we went to Red Cliffs for a little cook out. The plan was to do some hiking but we got out there late and so we just sat around the fire and ate dinner. Chase kept whining that it was a bit too hot for a campout but I thought it was perfect. Addi had her favorite food, hotdogs, so she was in heaven.
There was an aunt pile around where we were. This made life difficult for the poor little girl who is terrified of all bugs. Chase had her finally convinced by the end that she could step on them. The night was filled with many girl screams that “uggs” were going to get her. Next up was s’mores. Addi was not a fan of the whole s’more idea so she just ended up eating plain old marshmallows.
She was very bothered that her hands where sticky so Chase decided to wash her hands in the river, upside down. This went over very well.
Addi needed to go potty during this adventure so I took her to the outhouse type structure. She took one look at that potty and refused to sit. We walked back to the camp and Will said jokingly to her that if she wouldn’t go in the potty she would have to go on the dirt. Next thing we know she had pulled down her pants, squatted down and took care of business. Never joke about potty locations to this girl I guess.
Lately bending down down has been quite difficult. Getting the laundry out of the washer dryer is not pleasant at all. I have been asking Will to make me a stand for them and since Chase was here to help we decided to get it done.
I don’t have a picture of the final product for some reason but there is definitely no need to bend over any more. I suppose when you ask an abnormally tall man to make the washer at a height one would not have to bend over to get clothes out I should have been more specific. They are a little on the tall side. I have to get on my tip toes to turn on the dyer and put the detergent in the washer. But tip toes are much better then bending in half and squishing a baby any day.
Addi completely fell in love with Chase over these three days. Will went to pick her up at nursery on Sunday and the first thing out of her mouth was to ask where Chase was and then show him the picture she drew of him. She was always telling us that Chase was her friend and going crazy when she could not find him. They played funny games in the car, chased each other around the house and Addi always had to hold his hand or sit by him. It was cute to see him play and take of her. She now wants to call Chase all the time to chat with him. We were so happy to have him for the weekend and wish we could see him more often. When we went to drop him off at the shuttle I told Addi that Chase had to go on the bus to go to school. She was really cool with it at first because apparently she thought she was also going to ride the bus and they were going to her preschool. When we got in the car after Chase got on the bus she started bawling hysterically saying “I need my friend, I miss Chase, I go on bus.” It was so sad. We both needed a shake to cheer us up after that. We all love this boy!
