The Blue Angels came to St. George today as part of the Thunder of Utah show. Will, Addi and I spent all day there and it was awesome. I wont lie, it would have been a bit more awesome if Addi had stayed home and there was no wind but it was still excellent. I think I am emotionally unstable. One person said that if they are not between a 4 and 6 on the emotional scale they are crying. That is me. Crying if I am happy, crying if I am sad. As we walked in, I saw one of the Blue Angles with the pilots surrounding it and tears in the eyes. I see the planes flying and the pilots doing amazing maneuvers, I see the veterans walking around the planes telling their war stories, I hear a lady behind me say Thank you to every service man (I tried but was too choked up). Basically all day I had tears. I am certain that this is not normal and I should be seen by a doctor.
There was a huge transport plane that you could walk in. It was amazing how huge it was. I still think that something that large should not be able to fly. We finally got into the back of the plane and Addison decided that she needed to touch all the buttons and screws and hooks and other peoples food. She then threw a massive fit when we said no, so we had to leave before we could get into the cock pit.
The first plane we watched was the Raptor. It was my favorite. Ridiculously fast, turned so sharp, went so high and was just amazing.
After the Raptor did its thing a WWII Mustang went up. The Raptor and the Mustang raced and did some cool maneuvers together. It was crazy to see how tiny the Mustang was compared to the Raptor.
During the first hour of the air show Addi was pretty good. She ate her Lunchable, played with her monkeys, crawled in and out of her stroller, clapped and said “panes”. Right when I thought “wow, she is being excellent” she changed. She would not sleep and it was windy and she was mad mad mad. Some how we made it all the way though the performance. And yes, I know she looks like a boy, but the hoodie is warm it kind of went with the theme of the day. These were some of the happier moments of the Addster.
In an attempt to get her asleep we missed part of the ground battle and walked around the static displays. The sleeping part did not work but seeing all the planes was cool.
The Osprey was a really cool plane to watch. It is part helicopter and part plane.
The Blue Angels were last to perform and this is when the awful wind started. It was incredible to see them fly in formation. My favorite is part was when they all went behind a tall hill and exploded up and out of it all together. I can not believe how fast they could go but also how slow, not the exact word, they looked. Like they were just floating in the breeze.
What I really loved about the whole day was how excited Will was about it all. Whenever I said I was excited or while we were getting ready he would whine about the weather, wind, and crowds. He must have been excited because he did some serious research. He could tell me about each plane (the name, why it was named that, when it was used, certain theaters it was used in) about the pilots and the history of the Blue Angels. It was cute to see him so into it and I am glad he loved it as much as I did.
Someday I need to fly with someone in a jet and do some stunts just like we saw today. I would love it!
