Saturday morning at 6:00 I woke up to a puddle on the bed. I woke up Will and we decided that my water had broke. Since we had made so many visits to the hospital with no success I decided to call them first. The nurse said that I probably just had had a little accident in the bed. I was told to go walk around and see if anything else happened. I was having little contractions but they where not really painful or consistent. I went to the community center and started walking. After about 2 hours with no more contractions I got sick of walking and came home. Around noon Will just could not take waiting anymore so we packed up and went to the hospital. They did the amniotic test and sure enough my water had broke earlier that morning. I had not dilated at all since my appointment last week so they decided to start me on Pitocin. They took me to the labor room and got me hooked up to the IV. I called my parents and they started the 6 hour journey to the hospital. I thought that I would try to do some of the labor without the epidural. My labor was all in my back and it was super painful. I lasted about 2 hours and then we called in the anesthesiologist. After the epidural was in I was feeling spectacular. It was a little weird not being able to move my lower half. At one point I had slid down the bed and wanted to sit myself up more. That small task required both my Dad and Will to help me. I had been on the Pitocin for about 6 hours and had only dilated 1 cm. I was never told about the "shakes" during labor. My entire body was shaking uncontrollably. Will tried to hand me a cup of water and my hand was shaking so bad I could not grasp it. Apparently this shaking is cause my hormones and means you are getting closer. They turned it up even higher and then in one hour I was all of a sudden at 9 cm. My parents had gone on a walk when the nurses told me to start pushing. My doctor had been in Idaho and should be rolling in at any minute. The nurse told me to stop pushing as much so the doctor could be there. He finally got there and within 3 minutes she was born. Addison was officially born at 10:28. My parents had got back from their walk and where able to here her screaming in the hall way. I was so relieved to hear her crying. I was able to hold her right after she was born. I snuggled her for a minute and then they took her to get weighed. She weighed 6 lbs and 15 oz and was 19 inches long. She had the the most insane cone head I had ever seen but luckily it went back to normal pretty quick.
Once I was all stitched up and Addi was clean my parents came into the room. My dad immediately took her and would not give her up until they left. It was so cute to see him with her.
Around 1:00 am we made it to the postpartum room. Will immediately passed out on the chair/bed. I fed Addi and then the nurse took her to the nursery so I could sleep. I just laid there the entire night not able to sleep at all. All I wanted to do was see my baby again. The next morning the pediatrician came to check on her. He told me that her tongue was tied and that was probably why we where having some breast feeding issues. They took her away and cut her tongue. It must not be too painful because they brought her back a few minutes later and she was as happy as ever. She kept sticking out her tongue and wiggling it around because she finally could. Another night was spent at the hospital and I was hoping that we could go home that next morning. The doctor came in and told us she had jaundice. This meant a day of lights. We where able to get home at about 9:00 that night. My dad had to leave to get back to work but my Mom was able to stay with me. It was so nice to have her there especially that first night. My mom feed her her jaundice formula and Will and I where able to get a little sleep.
I can not believe how having a baby has already changed our lives. Things that were important before are just not as much. Our whole lives revolve around this little beautiful girl. I am so grateful that she is all ours.
