Today I Fell in Love

Do you ever have that moment in your day when you realize that you really really love the people in your life. I think that I take my family for granted a lot and it is nice that it hits me every once in awhile how much I love them. It is like falling in love all over again and reminding why you started loving them in the first place.

I told Add I loved her and today she answered back “wub u”. I love her.

Today in class I was telling a story about President Gordon B. Hinckley. The kids in my class said they didn’t know who he was. I couldn’t believe it but then realized that they were probably one or two when he passed away. This made me a little sad because he was such an amazing and great man. The story I was telling is one that he had told. He was a little kid and noticed that the North Star was always constant and that he wanted to always be constant and a anchor for people around him. I asked Will to share how President Hinckley was a “North Star” to him. He said: “I always watched him help his wife walk into conference (or wherever they were) and then help her sit down before he did."This taught him to be respectful of women and when I saw him do that I always hoped that one day I would have a wife that I could be so kind and loving to and now I do and I can.” I love him.

Sick Momma, Good Baby

I feel like I don't get sick too often but when I do it is awful, or I am just a big whiner. Whole body hurts (especially my back), fever, chills, cant stand without throwing up and super tired. Last night I started feeling sick so I went to bed early. I woke up this morning much more sick. I am bitter not only because I am sick but we had a ladies Bunco night planned for tonight and I was super excited to go (my life is pretty boring). Last time I was invited to a girl thing by these people I got sick. They are probably going to think I just don't like them. Anyways, I planned on staying in bed all day and drinking water and sprite in order to hopefully good to go tonight. I begged Will to stay home from work to watch Add but he had stuff he had to do. I decided that it was pretty selfish of me to stay in bed and ignore Add all day just so that I could hopefully leave tonight. I started to get up and Will texts me and says to not worry about cleaning or dinner or anything and just to sleep. I thought well I will let Addi finish eating her Cheerios and then get up. But when she was done she just started wandering around the house and playing. I thought that maybe this could work. I spent all morning sitting in my bed. Addi brought me toys, tried to feed me, played in her room, jumped on the bed a lot, fell off the bed once and was generally an awesome child. I should banish myself to the bed more often. The only time we had an issue is when I told her to bring me a diaper. Usually she goes and gets one right away. But today she brought me shoes, lotion, clothes, books, toys, a keyboard and many other items until I finally got her diaper. Each time she brought me something I would say "No Addi, I need a diaper." That would cause her to go into a 2 minute long speech in her baby language. I am assuming was saying something like "you lazy momma, but these shoes on me and lets go to the park or read this book or play with this toy." It is hilarious to listen to her talk and talk but not understand a word. Not going to lie, I am a little afraid for the day when she really starts talking because she will probably never stop. And now it is 1:00 and I am feeling much better already. Thanks Addi for being a spectacular little girl and letting Mom rest. Bunco night, here I come!
P.S. In case you were concerned that I am going to infect everyone there I wont. I have a joyous case of food poisoning.

Red Cliffs

Will got home early today and we decided to get out of the house. We packed up and headed over to the Red Cliffs National Park. We went on a little trail to go see the dinosaur tracks and the Anasazi site. We put Addi down in the red dirt and she was so funny. She kept stomping and kicking the dirt and rocks around.

So walked so slow. We really need to get one of those back things. She let Will carry her on his shoulders for a while but soon she started to rip his glasses off and stab him with a stick.

When we were done with all the hills we let her walk. Again, ridiculously slow. She would kick the bushes, pick up rocks and try to color on other rocks with sticks.

This rock was a big hit and she cried when we made her get off.

Towards the end it was really chilly and we where sick of waiting for the turtle. She had a fit that she was being carried and kept squirming. She finally decided that this position was acceptable and Will sprinted to the car with her.

I love being outdoors and am happy Addi is old enough to start enjoying it too.

The Box

Addison has become attached to a little box that has been kicking around the house for a few days. She stuffs it full of all sorts of objects in it, pushes it around the house and sits in it. I admit that I may be blamed for this obsession because when she was younger I did sit her in a diaper box with all of her toys. But now she is just too big. It is hilarious to watch her try and sit in the box while keeping all of the toys inside. I can’t complain because the following process keeps her entertained for quite awhile.

Our Nursery Girl

Addi had her first full day of nursery today. When we dropped her off I think Will was much more concerned then she was. He kept running out of our class to go check on her. Each time he did check on her, he said that she was doing so good. She was a happy little girl when we picked her up. Church without Addi is like a whole new experience. I love it! She is not quite 18 months old but they let us sneak her in a few weeks early. A few things about our (almost) 18th month old.
-She no longer uses a pacifier! We took it away last week and there was no drama at all
-She says a lot of new words including: baby, no, don't, home, yes, sorry, blankey, ball and a few other random ones
-She still hangs on my leg every time I make dinner
-Usually when she hurts one of us she signs sorry and says it
-Every morning she finds the three things she is going to carry around all day; it can vary from packets of Jello, a stuffed animal, controlers, shoes, pens, screw drivers, blankets and many other options
-Every night she needs to have a stuffed animal when she goes to sleep and in the morning she will hand you all the animals and blankets before she gets out of the crib
-She is still quite bald

Thankful

     A few days ago there was a shoot out in Ogden (I think) where 5 police men where injured and one was killed. I absolutely hate seeing this on the news. The first reason being obvious; how awful that must be for the family.   Their daddy and husband left for work and will never come back. I feel awful for the people affected. The second reason that I hate hearing this type of news is that my Dad is a state trooper.
     Just recently have I started being concerned about my dad’s career choice. When I was younger (and by younger I mean my whole life until about a 2 years ago) I thought all my dad did was wander on down the rode and pull over decent people that would not do anything bad. My Mom told me a while ago that Dad almost got hit by a passing car when he was on a wreck. I about died. Really, his job is that dangerous! I realize this sounds ridicoulous that the child of a cop just realized that being a cop was a highly dangerous job but its true. Once in a while I remember him telling us stories that could have ended badly but he made it sound like it was no big deal at all. I talked to my Mom about this and she said that that is what they had wanted. When my Mom went to the “Welcome to the police force meeting” they said something like “There is no reason to freak yourself or your kids out everytime your husband goes to work, what happens will happen.” I am one hundred percent grateful that my Mom listened to these words. Every time when we were little we would line up on the stairs and give Dad a kiss and told us he loved us as he left for work. As I was a little older and found out that not everyone did this I found it odd that we did, but now I think I understand. He really could get involved in something that could be seriously dangerous and could not come home. I am glad we did this. I do remember one time when I was terriried about the safety of my Dad. He was working a man hunt somewhere and we where unable to talk to him or even really know where he was for a few days. I don’t think I could live my childhood in that constant state of wondering if he would be on the news as the officer that was shot.
     The main point of this post is that I not only am I grateful that my Dad (and others) are willing to serve this state and country but also for the families that stand behind each and everyone of them. I appreciate their service and hope to not take it too much for granted. My heart goes out to the poor family of the officer and I pray that the others that were injured will soon be healthy again.

Christmas

Christmas is a million times better when you get to watch your little kid open her gifts. Seriously. She was so adorable. She would start pulling off the paper and then start saying “OOOOO, OOOOO, OOOO” and start pulling faster. She then would immediately kiss and hug whatever it was the was in the present. After kissing the present she would give the closest person a hug and a kiss. I kept wanting to give her more and more presents because she was so stinking cute.

On Christmas Eve Will’s family had a little party and a gift exchange. I was lucky enough to get my own gift which was a Snuggy. Seriously, love this thing. Don’t know why I have not purchased one earlier. I am wearing it now. Anyways, Addi had a great time opening present and playing. Jennifer put some bows on her while we were talking and she acted to odd. She would not move for at least five minutes. I don’t know if she thought we would yell at her if they fell off or what.

I have the most excellent parents who got me a Bosch mixer as my gift. I was so excited I started doing the happy dance when I realized what it was. I have already made some bread (which was decent) and am excited to use it more. I am like a real live house wife now. Addi got spoiled beyond belief. I think she got enough clothes to wear a different outfit for a month. She got her new favorite book and some blocks from Grandma and Grandpa Randall which she loves. Auntie Rob got her some cool staking bowls. As much as I love giving Addi presents it is also very stressful. She is quite particular about the toys she plays with and I hate when I buy something and she ignores it completey. Our garage is fillied with baby toys and such that she used once. Anyways I think after all my researching and planning we did good. She got a stroller that she drags and carrys around the house all day and a little scooter. She is a little too short for the scooter thing but stills gets on and walks around with it. Will and I discovered today that if you combine the blocks and stacking bowls you can make some pretty fun games. I got Will a board game that he played with his friends and really liked. I am excited to get some people over here and play the game. We had a good Christmas and it was nice to stay home and not have to worry about traveling. We had our first family Christmas morning with just us and it was nice.

Thanksgiving

For some reason I have been putting this post off for a month now. I don’t know why. I have a hard time writing about my family without getting sappy and emotional. I just want my kids (who will hopefully read this) to know what an amazing family have backing them up. A family that is full of love, service, hard work, fun, crazy ideas, charity, resourcefulness and just plain amazing people.
For this Thanksgiving we had almost all of my grandparents kids, grand kids and great grandkids. We spent three days together doing all sorts of things including eating, cooking, quilting, playing games, cleaning and just playing. Addison discovered this little car and spent almost an entire day in it. She had lots of cousins that liked to push her all around the gym.

We quilted two quilts for some family’s that needed them.

We played a hilarious game of Family Feud that my cousin Jason put together. The questions were all based around the family and some answers were really funny. It was such a great game I would love to do it again.
We had a little celebration for my grandparents because they had recently had their 60th wedding anniversary and my grandpa turned 90. We watched old videos and it was fun to see them when they were so young. My cousin Janelle has an amazing bakery in South Jordan called One Sweet Slice. She made a cake for their anniversary and it was perfect. She said she thought about making a standard fancy cake but that wouldn't really work for my grandparents. They are not fancy people. Instead she came up with this spectacular cake which fits them perfectly. The truck is the first one that they owned when they were married. The bed of the truck holds missionary tags, the initials of all their kids, hay bales, tiny heads of lettuce, and an little American symbol. Every detail was perfect. She also made 200 delicious cup cakes for us all to enjoy.

It was an excellent Thanksgiving weekend. I am thankful to all the people who worked so hard to put this all together. It was nice to spend time with my cousins that I don’t see often. I can’t wait to get together again. The following is an article written in the San Juan Record:
The family of Ruel and Deanne Randall gathered together Thanksgiving weekend for a few days of feasting, renewing acquaintances and celebrating the life of their parents, grandparents and great grandparents.
Ruel and Deanne were the honored couple celebrating 60 years of married life together, and celebrating Ruel’s 90th birthday. Of their 145 posterity 123 were present. Five of these unable to attend are serving LDS missions at this time.
Family came from New York, Georgia, Texas, Idaho, New Mexico, Utah and local.
Ruel and Deanne were married October 15, 1951 and were blessed with eight children: Harriet, Julie, Jared, Todd, Barbara, Sanford, Sheldon and Kristin, 43 Grandchildren of which only 22 are married, and 61 great grandchildren, with five more on the way.
The reunion started Thanksgiving evening with dinner of eight turkeys with the trimmings. Followed with a Randall Family Feud show with survey questions coming from family members relating to time and activities and rules from Grandma and Grandpa Randall. Old family reunion videos were watched with some good laughs from the past.
Friday was spent on service projects, cutting wood, making quilts, along with cooking demonstrations on making bread, noodles, yogurt and the goods were taken to needy families.
Friday evening was a time for memories of Ruel and Deanne their legacy and the importance of family ties.
Saturday included a temple session (almost standing room only), more eating and then cleaning of the stake center. They are grateful for being able to use that wonderful facility.
The cake was made by Janelle Randall Brown portraying the pickup truck Ruel & Deanne had when they were first married. The back is filled with reminders of their life together, children, farming, gardens and missions.
Sometime we just have to stop and really focus on what really matters most. Family gatherings seem to do just that.

Words can not express how much I love these two people. They are a great example to me and my family. I hope they know how many people they have influenced in their life.

Game Night

We drove up to Diamond Valley to have game night with Sheldon’s and Kristin’s families. Addi had a great time playing with Ella and Jael while we played Balderdash. I made an amazing comeback and won the game (and did not cheat). Will had the best answer of the night which had Sheldon laughing so hard that he had to have Keri read the card.
Ricou Browning was known for being killed by a turnip that was thrown out of a moving car by a vegetable throwing gang.

The Reason for the Season

We usually go to Tuacahn to watch the live nativity but this year we decided to try something new and venture out to Staheli Farms. I was glad we did. The nativity is free, they only ask that you bring a can of food to donate as your admission. I love that they do this for free all month and donate so much food.
They had a small set made of hay and benches and picnic tables set up in front. It was more personal and intimate in a way. When we walked outside of our house it was not too chilly but once we got the farms it was freezing and windy. We bundled up best we could and snuggled together to keep warm. Will was unprepared and did not bring anything for his head. He ended up stealing Addi’s snuggle blanket and wrapping it around his head. He looked rather interesting. One of our primary kids walked by and Will tapped him on his shoulder to say hello, he must not have recognized Will with his head piece because he cried out for his Mom and ran away!

The program started with a lady singing a beautiful song about Mary. She had a great voice and it really set the mood. I love watching a live nativty because it brings me away from all the presents and crafts and craziness to the simple reason we celebrate Christmas. The manger seen is so peaceful and perfect. Most of the actors were kids and they were cute.
We did have a slight distraction during the nativity. Dear Addison could see the llama that was near the manger and she loudly said ‘moooooo’ at least every minute. It was funny and I could not help my laughing.
After the nativity we drove around to look at the Christmas lights. Addi would start yelling and pointing whenever we saw a house that was really lit up. We had a great night and will defiantly go back next year!

December Projects

I love Christmas and especially the projects that come with it! My friend Wendy and I decided to make wooden trees for the December craft night. We had quite a few girls come and had a great time. Everyone's tree turned out so cute. This craft night business is a lot of work but it always ends up being great and is the perfect chance to socialize with other women with out kids! These trees are 2x4’s cut at different sizes and stacked on their side with paper modge podged on. This is mine and one for my Mom.

This is not really a Christmas craft but whatever. I discovered this old window pane at my aunt’s house and asked if I could steal it. I get some hemp twine stuff, glue guned it on and a picture holder is made. I spray painted the little clothes pins so they would stand out a bit. I hate that it has to hang on a white wall but sadly renting equals no painting.

And isn’t sad that I had to search my house to find these three pictures (one is our own Christmas card from last year). One bad thing about digital cameras is that you never have pictures lying around (at least I don’t).

Pintrest inspired me to make a felt tree for Addison. The picture of the tree had a little girl just playing and playing with the tree. I thought “this could really entertain Addi, probably need it”. I dashed to Joanns, purchased lots of felt, put Addi down for a nap and started cutting and glue gunning. After many burns I finally finished. I need to find a better way to hang it on the wall because my packing tape just is not quite holding up. Anyways I was so excited for Addison to try it out. I placed her in front of the tree and she walked away. I was not about to give up. I should her how to take the ornaments off and put them back on. She still does not play with it as much as I would wish. Maybe she is a bit too young.

Every time I walked by all the ornaments are on the floor so I pick them up and put them back on the tree. I figured they just kept falling off, not true. One time as I was putting them all on Addison came by and started ripping them off and saying no each time I tried to put them on. Apparently she likes naked trees.

This has nothing to do with Christmas but Addison finally says Mom and means it! She usually only says it when she needs help or wants to be held but I will take what I can get.

Deodorant: The Gateway Drug

As I was getting ready this morning I had my little shadow following me around as usual. I stood in front of the mirror, lifted my shirt a tad and put on some deodorant, set it on the counter and then started doing my hair. I look down at some point to see that Addison had stolen the deodorant off the counter, lifted up her shirt and was rubbing it on her belly. At first I laughed, then it hit me that she is learning and growing way too fast, and then I might have cried a bit. I am a tad bit emotional lately (think it is time to switch birth control, I bawled while reading the Polar Express to Add tonight). Anyways, if she is putting her own deodorant on at the small age of 1 what will she be doing at 3? She will probably just live on her own in the garage and only need me to unwrap the occasional sucker (latest obsession). Also deodorant makes you smell good and boys like girls who smell good, which terrifies me. The moral of this story is that my sweet innocent little girl can now put on deodorant, which I consider a gateway drug to all grown up and I-don’t-need-my-mommy behaviors. Lock it up and throw away the key.

Sick Baby

Oh the little one has a cold. This is probably the meanest thing a Mom has ever said but she acts so good when she is sick and I do like it a bit. She really is and I don’t know why. The past two days she has thrown limited fits and just plays in her own little world. I am not a completely awful mom and do feel bad when she attempts to cry in her hoarse voice. She really sounds like a 92 year old smoker. Sad.

Setting up the Christmas tree did make her a happy little girl despite the cold. As I setting up the Christmas tree she was watching and caught on to the concept of putting the ornaments on the tree. She was not too helpful but would actually balance the ornaments on the tree.

After we decorated it she ignored it the rest of the night. I am certain that when she sees it again in the morning she will attempt to attack but hopefully not too bad. Hopefully our little sick girl will start feeling better so we can start doing all the holiday activities!

A Few of her Favorite Things

Little Addi goes through phases of different toys and other things but there are three things that are constantly her favorite.

#1 A pen and paper. Oh how she loves to draw or even fake draw. she generally has a pen, pencil, crayon or even a glue stick in one hand and something to “write” on in the other. She is pretty good about not drawing on the floor and/or furniture but we have had a few rainbow tiles in the kitchen. This particular picture is brought to you by a leadless mechanical pencil and a sample packet of shampoo.

#2 Baking soda and measuring spoons. She used to help me unload the utensils out of the dishwasher but now she grabs the measuring spoons, heads to the cooking cupboard for the baking soda and then sits down trying to get some out.

#3 The blankey of course (I am unsure if that is how you properly spell blankey). Oh how she loves them. She gets all sorts of happy when she finds one and drags it all around the house or holds it in her mouth as she walks around.

Another things she loves lately is giving kisses which I think is one million percent adorable. She puckers up her little lips and “mmmmmmm” until someone kisses her. I may be partial but I am certain she can be the most adorable little 1 year old when she wants to be.

Oh My Life

I am in a funk. I feel like everything I do is not enough. I do not know why I feel like this because I am not getting any of these feelings from Will. Its actually the opposite. He always wants me to just watch a movie and take a break. My problem is a fell like, a break from what? I have one kid and I still can not keep my house nice and clean. I work one day a week and have a few projects here and there on the side. My life is so easy but for some reason it is still hard. My friend blogged about this same thing a few days ago and then posted this article that she found and I love it. I love that it says that something that takes a kid free person 15 minutes takes a person with kids 45 minutes. Also love this quote “I used to want the world, now I just want to use the bathroom alone.” This quote sums up my day. When I use the restroom either Addi is crying and banging on the door, brining me random objects or throwing things in the other toilet. Motherhood can often be a thankless job (especially when said child cant talk). I have so much respect for the moms that can do it all (although I am certain they feel inadequate at times). This is not a “I hate being a mom” post. I do love it. I love when Addi randomly comes up and gives me a kiss and acts like a complete goof. Some days are just more difficult then others. Am I the only one that gets in these funks?

Halloween

Addison discovered the joys of candy and cookies this Halloween season. She sneakily stole quite a few of these little pumpkin cookies.

For Halloween Addison was a bee. My aunt invited Addi to a neighborhood party a few days before Halloween. We got her all dressed up and headed over. She immediately cried when she saw this

She clung to me until she realized that there was a slide in the back yard. She watched the older kids climb up it and was certain that she could do the same.

The older kids started getting annoyed with the little bee that was at the bottom of the slide and started to just run right over her. I spent the rest of the night attempting to keep her out of the way and off the slide. She wants to play with older kids but she is just not quite there yet.

The night before Halloween we carved pumpkins. Addi loved it. She carried around her little pumpkin while we did ours and kept whacking it with the spoon. When we got hers but open it was even more exciting for her. She love sticking her spoon in and out and touching the guts.

Will had to supervise the football players during the college Trunk-or-Treat so we spent the beginning of the night there. Addi refused to walk in her shoes. I do not know what the deal was (she has worn them before) but she seriously would not walk. She was scared of the people that were dressed up (I don’t judge because I am scared of everything too). After that unsuccessful activity we headed home.

I figured that we had enough candy and due to Addi’s inability to walk we decide to skip going door to door. I took off Addi’s shoes, laid a blanket on the yard, got my candy and handed it out the kids. Once Addi was shoeless she loved having all the kids come on the lawn to chase around. She ignored the candy bowl for awhile but once she figured out what it was there was no stopping the candy monster. She would steal handfuls of Tootise Rolls, shove them in her mouth and run. When I finally caught she had eaten a few (wrappers and all) and the rest was pulled out of her mouth in a gooey mess. For the rest of the night if I turned my head at all she was grabbing handfuls of candy. Last year I ran out of candy within an hour and a half. This year I was a little too prepared. I now have a giant bowl of candy as well as two bags left over. It stares at me and I really need to get rid of it before I gain 100 pounds.

State Champions

My dearest sister, Robin, plays volleyball for Monticello High School. This year they have been doing really well and we had high hopes for the state tournament. Rich was the top pick for the title and people thought Monticello would not do much like in years past. The first two games were pretty simple but the third game against St. Josephs was a nail bitter. Me and my mom always get nervous when it comes to sports and I was on the verge of throwing up the entire time. I have a love hate relationship with sports (especially wrestling and volleyball). I love them but I always got really, really nervous. My body feels all tingly, I want to throw up, I feel the need to grab my neighbors arm and often yell/scream. My Dad does not like sitting by me and my Mom because we are just too loud. Finally after many nervous moments they won the semi-finals. I wish I had a better camera to take cooler action shots but alas……

Seriously this girl has ridiculously long legs.

We had some breaks during the games and did some shopping. The mall had a carousel and my Mom took Addi on a ride.

Addi hated sitting there about the third minute of the first day. I had an arsenal of treats and goodies for her but it did not last too long. Miraculously my Dad got her to sleep through one game one morning. During those two days she ate more fruit snacks, candy, ice cream, juice boxes, Gold Fish, Teddy Grahams then any one year old should have.

During the state game both me and my Mom wanted to focus on the game and not worry about Addi. We brought a LARGE container of popcorn for her and handed her off the to Loren and Ashley. She spent the rest of the night eating some but mostly throwing it, breaking it, smooshing it, digging in it, dumping it and making a very large mess. I did not care though, she was happy and not screaming.

When the championship game came we were could not contain our selves. The darkened the stadium and had the smoke and the lights going. The team walked in and we all started screaming. It was fun to be in such a big crowd of Buckaroo loving fans. Robin did look a bit nervous as the stood at the net.

During the game Robin played amazing. The best I, or anyone else has ever seen. During one volley she blocked at least five spikes and slammed the ball a few times herself. It was awesome to watch her play at her best. Monticello beat Rich in 3 games. The crowd exploded when we got the final point and the crown stormed the court.

Monticello has not taken the state title in volleyball for 26 years (I do believe). It was awesome to show everyone that this team of girls could do it. I know most of the girls on the team and I am proud that they could work together to earn this. I love coming from a little town where state championships are a big deal. There is a great sense of community when everyone is keeping track of the team and how they are playing.

I have decided I officially like crafting and shall do it more often. I found a neighbor that loves to do it too and we have made plans for lots more crafts. The first is a cute little candy bag for Addison to go trick-or-treating with. Instructions are found here.

I am super special and can not properly calculate the yardage needed. I ended up purchasing way more fabric then we needed for two bags. As I sat there staring at my piles of felt I thought “Why not make little baby candy corns?” So, I did (I do lots of things to avoid doing dishes).

I love wreaths but I am a cheap individual and don’t like to spend money so I made this for the front door.

The constant rain we had for a week made it wig out a bit but it still worked. I think it is not intended for dreary, windy and rainy weather.

Lastly, I made pumpkins out of books, found here. I did not follow the instructions precisely because I love shortcuts so my pumpkins are a tad bit lopsided but I still think they are acceptable.

Now on to Christmas projects!

Food Mess

Addi is now pretty skilled at feeding herself with utensils. It does take her awhile to finish and it is pretty entertaining to watch because you can tell she is trying really hard but her hand eye coordination leaves a lot to be desired. This is what she looked like this morning after feeding herself an entire bowl of oatmeal.

Staheli Farms

Well we have not had much family time lately. I wanted this trip to Staheli Farms to be a perfect picture of family happiness. Well, someone forgot to inform Addison of this plan. She was grumpy and scared of everything for the first half an hour. She usually loves the animals but not today.

She usually loves swings but not this horse tire swing.

I was certain she would like the “corn pit” because she loves playing in dirt and rocks but she would freak out when we tried to put her in.

We got on the trailer and made it to the pumpkin patch. We were the only ones there and Addison finally would allow us to put her on the ground. She decided she liked playing in the grass and with the pumpkins.

Once she was happy we went around the entire farm all over again. She still hated the corn pit but this time around she pet the horse, yelled at the chickens (my Aunt has chickens and Addi runs around chasing them and yelling), laughed hysterically on the swing and rode a little tractor.

In the end we had a decent time and finally decided on the perfect pumpkin. I learned that I should not have high expectations for family outings when a 1 year old is involved.

This post is full of randomness

When I was an adorable young baby my Dad gave me the glorious nickname of HogPatch. Unsure how this name came about but it did and I still have a few uncles and old friends that call me that. Carrying on with tradition of odd nicknames Addison has been deemed Chicken Pock.
Addi loves corn. Loves it. I like giving it to her because she can eat it for an hour and I have a hour to do Addison free activities (like mop, load the dishwasher and other excitement).

Lately every time she is trying to be cute she will tilt her head to the side. And when I tell her to smile she smiles big and closes her eyes. We still need to work on that

She always crosses her ankles when she is sitting in her high chair and often does it any times she sits. I think it is so cute! Do not judge me for the grossness of the bottom of her tights. That is what you get for running around church with no shoes.
Addi loves to play peek-a-boo. She plays it with every things she can find. Her favorite is a mixing bowl .

She also enjoys the potato smasher. She waves it around, whacks things and stirs things.

This is what I found today as I walked into the living room.

She climbed her little self right onto the coffee table. As a good parent should I removed her from the table. She threw a massive fit. Hiccupping, can’t breath, bawling tantrum. She kept trying to climb back on which would lead to more bawling. We may have to be coffee tableless for a while.

Lately she has been so snugly and nice. She will randomly come give me a kiss (which is licking my face) or will pat my face and give me a hug. That makes up for all of the fits!

The Joys of a Car Seat.

Why is it that Addi despises the car seat when it is in the car but adores it when it is sitting on the floor of the house? While I sat on the couch all day watching conference she entertained herself by climbing on the car seat, reading books while sitting in it and lounging around.

Tunnels

I stole these tunnels from my Aunt’s DI pile (I promise I am not a hoarder although I am certain this is step one). I had thrown them in the garage and forgot about them (step two to becoming a hoarder). I discovered them today and thought they might entertain Addi while I mopped. She did find them very exciting. She was a bit nervous to crawl through them at first but then decided she liked them. She would crawl back and forth, through toys in it and play peek-a-boo with me.

I quietly snuck away while she was in the tunnel to go mop. I was just about to celebrate my success when a baby came streaking into the kitchen and slipping and then bawling. Still need to find something more entertaining then the mop!

We went with Grandpa to feed the cows. I was certain that she would start bawling when she saw them, but instead she loved them. She kept pointing and laughing at them. One cow is very friendly and just follows my Dad around so he will scratch her. Addi thought it was great, especially when the nice cow would lick her shoe!

Addi now says "Moooo" when you ask her what a cow says!

She also got to "drive" around the farm, which she enjoyed.

Addi is most definitely my child. She loves books. She generally caries a book around all day. My mom gave her some board books for Christmas and they are already getting worn out. She will lay on the ground or get in a corner, open the books and start talking. Adorable. I love that she loves books and hopefully she will continue to do so.

Football

About 8 years ago when I hear this word my thoughts centered around cute boys in the football uniforms, friends, hot chocolate and boys.

Four years later I still thought about hot boys, but my thoughts were mostly centered around #75.

Fast forward to now and when I hear that word I slightly groan. It means that I will be a single parent for the next three months. Will leaves at 5:30 a.m. and gets back around 7:00 p.m. on most days. I still do get excited every Saturday before the game starts. I enjoy the games even though I know only the basic concepts of football. I am fairly certain there are still hot guys to look at (including my dearest husband) but instead of watching the game I am trying to control my adorable little child.

This weekend Dixie had a scrimmage before the season starts. I decided that this would be the practice game to determine if we would be watching the games from the stadium or on our couch. We got to the game and found some seats. Addi sat and stared at the field. She was enthralled. Once in a while she would point and grunt or dance to the songs but she really just sat and watched. I thought that this was going to be a spectacular season because she was so well behaved. I even sent my mom a picture and told how great she was being.

Sadly, the moment the message had sent her football spell was broken. She gave me this odd face, stood up, and was on the run.

First she wanted to climb the steps, then she wanted everyone’s drink, then she wanted to pull people’s hair and eat trash. After a bit I decided to try our luck on the ground.

We discovered a little patch of gravel near the concession stands and she spent a long time playing with the rocks. This kid loves rocks. She feels a need to pick up every rock she walks by and I am always amazed how many rocks she can fit in her little hands.

Hopefully we can spend our time here during all the football games. Towards the end of the scrimmage she was getting fussy, hot and tired. There was a “train” (a man pulling little cars behind a four-wheeler) going around the track that kids could ride. Addi was always quite excited when it came by so I thought we would try it to see if she liked it. I did feel like a complete idiot being the only adult on this little kid ride but Addi thought it was the most amazing thing she had ever done. She was laughing, yelling and waving. I would really spend the entire game on that train because Addi would be happy and you get quite an excellent view of the game.

Hopefully we will have a good football season and we will not have to watch the games from the T.V.

I know Will is really excited for this season and hopefully he can get some good results from all of his hard work.

Sunday Dessert

I think Sunday dessert is something that has been engrained into my soul. About six or seven I start thinking of all the delicious chocolaty goodness I could eat. I blame my family. It is not a bad blame (does that make any sense). I love my Sunday addiction to dessert. My Grandma loves dessert, my Mom loves dessert and this chocolate gene has been passed right down to me. The need for Sunday dessert will most likely be engrained in Addison as well. Today Addi got in on some of the brownie bowl licking action.

Finally I am done with school. I dropped of this large 183 page document at my teachers office today. I will be turning in my final paper tonight or tomorrow and then that is it. I have to give a shout out to my Mommy who proofread the entire document and dealt with my questions for three months. I am unsure what I will do with all my time. I can not remember a time in my life when I did not have school. I am stoked and maybe I will go clean out my cupboards.

Am I jinxing myself by posting this before I am certain that I actually passed the class? Hopefully not!

Happy Birthday!

We had a little party for her at my parents house. My Mom made this cute little monkey cake and little monkey cupcakes too!

Addi did not quite get the idea of unwrapping the presents but she had fun. She got spoiled by the family and got lots of toys and clothes. Thanks!

She enjoyed the cake and ice cream that Grandpa fed her. He did make her stand up each time she wanted a bite. Starting the lessons in work ethic early!

We have all seen the picture of babies with cake everywhere on their first birthday. Well, you will not be seeing any of those picture from us. We sat Addison on the table and placed the money cake in front of her. I was sure she would dive right in. She picked the eyeball of the monkey out of the frosting and tasted it but that was it. Every time we tried to get her to touch the frosting she would squirm and try to get away. We tried to get her to even taste it but she would have nothing to do with it.

Here is some facts about our little one

She walks, but only about 8 steps at a time
She is developing quite the attitude; for two days she would not eat if I feed her, she would only eat if she could do it herself
She loves books
She hates clothes
Every time she sees something that she thinks is cool or exciting she makes her little “ooo” monkey noise (it is adorable)
She makes the goofiest faces I have ever seen
She loves to get into everything in the house
She generally loves food; Macaroni, watermelon and graham crackers are favorites
She is still very bald
She has decided that shoes are not completely awful and wore them the whole three hours at church last week
She is a big girl, 80% in her height and 70% in her weight
We have moved from the bottle to the cup and could care less, I am more sad then she is
Her vocabulary is pretty pathetic; she communicates in grunts and a few signs but very little English comes from her mouth
She loves to give high five and thinks she is pretty cool when she does it
She still sleeps amazingly well (only at home though); two naps a day and at least 11 hours of straight sleep at night
When I am at work Addison goes to my aunt’s house for the day; she loves spending time with the kids and they love her right back
She loves to stand up, place her head on the ground and then throw things through her legs (does that make any sense?) it is hilarious

We love our little girl. I do wish she would stop growing though.

Neglectful Parent

I am in my final class for school. I will be done on August 5th (assuming that I will pass) and I can not wait. When I am done all I want to do is sleep, read and play with Addison. I also have been having a strong desire to clean my cupboards out. For this class I have to work a hundred hours on a project of my choice. For my project I am creating dental education lesson plans for grades K-6 and one for high school and a pre-natal class. Being the awesome procrastinator that I am, the deadline is coming up and I still have 25 hours to go. I am working at night, when Addi was in bed, but staying up till 2 is starting to kick my trash. I have attempted to do it during the day but Addi gets so sad, needy and pathetic. She is constantly trying to grab my screen, throw toys at me and attack my feet.

My dearest sister came to visit this weekend. My cousin, Brent, got home from his mission and my grandparents came over for his homecoming. Loren hitched a ride and I am so happy she did. We spent Saturday afternoon at the splash pad in Ancestor Square. I have always wanted to go but never had any one to go with. It is pretty fun and has lots of things for kids to do. Addi was tired and got grumpy towards the end but I think she will love going there, especially when she starts walking.

They recently have installed a carousel in Ancestor Square but sadly, it was closed for repairs while we where there. I sure we shall be returning for a ride.

Loren mentioned that she wanted to go buy a purse while she was here and I suggested that we just make one. She found this pattern and we started to figure out what we would need. My dearest Loren tried to be was too smart and figure out the area of the purse in order to figure out how many yards we needed. She did some calculations and determined we needed 23 yards! I started laughing and she decided she must have made an error in calculations. (Its ok Loren, I could not even tell how you how to begin to find the area of something) We went to the store, got some fabric and started sewing. The purse could be reversible and it was pretty easy to do. We did end up having a bit of extra fabric so she thinks she will try and make another one when she gets home.

The highlight of my weekend was Saturday night. My other cousin, Alan, went through the temple for the first time. Me and Will were planning on going to the session. We needed to make 2 batches of Cowboy cookies for the luncheon the next day. All of a sudden we were out of time. Dinner was still on the table, the kitchen was a mess, the cookies were not started and the baby was not in bed. I left Loren with the mess, the baby, my little cousin, a plea to make lots of cookies and no flour or brown sugar. After an especially good time in the temple I came home to a clean house, half of the cookies made, and a baby nicely sleeping in bed. I love Loren. Seriously. We spent the rest of the night finishing out the cookies, the purse and watching movies. It was so nive to have her around to help out and just to hang out with. I wish she lived nearer. I tried my best to convince her to come to college here but sadly it did not work.

Addi never plays with her toys for longer than four minutes. It is ridiculous. I was a tad bit stressed and frustrated at her one day so I nicely placed her behind the big recliner in the living room and her box of toys. She stayed there for over an hour. It was amazing. I still did not get much homework done because I kept peaking at her and watching her play. Her favorite thing is the get one of her books, lay back on the blankets and flip through the blankets. It is adorable. She really likes her little fort and crawls back there during the day many times.

I felt like a little girl all over again. All day I kept looking at the clock waiting for the time to come when we could get the baby sitter and head to Tuacahn. Finally, after a nice dinner and cupcakes at Twenty Five Main, we made it to Tuacahn. When they announced the show they said hat this was the 17th consecutive sold out night. Wow. When the opening song I started I seriously giggled with excitement. It was amazing. I loved it. I think that Under the Sea was probably my favorite song and act. They poured a sheet of water onto the stage and project images on it. By doing this they made some pretty sweet scenes. I had to resist my need to sing along with the cast. I was not a fan of the person that played Flounder but other then that it was wondrous. Will even liked it (or at least that is what he told me).You should probably all go, twice.

It was my birthday. Will made a cake. He decorated it all by himself.

I got many wonderful gifts including tickets to The Little Mermaid at Tuachan with Will and to go see Rascal Flatts with my Mommy and sisters. I am ridiculously excited for both! By husband is excellent at catching all the hints that I drop about gifts that I want. A year ago we were shopping with our friends and they but a Kapoosh, which is a knife holder that does not have any slats. You can put in any knife, any size in. Anyways, apparently he remember that I had said I thought that was really cool and wanted one. I was happy that he remembered. This removes the many knives I have dangerously scattered in my drawers. I was putting all of the knives in the Kapoosh and Addi got ahold of the little samples knives (they are just plastic pieces that are used to show how it works). We captured this very menacing picture of her.

The best and also the worst gift of the night was learning that Easy Frost Pillsbury Frosting exists. Will bought some to decorate the cake and I think I ate half of it before the cake was even baked. It is delicious. It taste just like frosting out of the tub but you can push the little button and it makes cute little designs. I also fell less guilty about squirting a little frosting on a graham cracker (or my finger) then busting out the entire tub of frosting.

Jenifer and I were attempting to encourage Addi to learn to walk by using Cheerios. She ate lots of Cheerios and did zero walking.

Addi was the dinner entertainment during the birthday BBQ. This is her kissing face.

I had an excellent day and I am lucky to have so many family and friends that love and support me.

Independence Day

Our 4th of July was a little low key but we still had fun. The parade in St. George started at 8 in the morning, which I thought was a tad early, so we did not go to that. I did manage to get Addi in a little red, white and blue outfit and even a bow long enough to take some pictures.

Will had his knee scoped and some tissue removed on Friday. He has been tethered to a Polar Care ice machine since he got home. We spent most of today snuggled on the couch watching T.V., snuggling, eating and refilling the ice machine.

We usually go to the Dixie Bowl to listen to the bands and watch the fireworks. We determined that it would be way to long of a walk for Will, so we had to break tradition and went to the Main Street park. The view was not as good but it was still fun. While we were waiting for the fireworks to start Addi had managed to get her little mouth on the straw to some Diet Pepsi. She immediately thought this was the best thing she ever had and spent the rest of the night trying to get back to the Diet Pepsi. Addi was not as impressed with the fireworks as we thought she would be. She did ooh and awe and clap for a minute but then she was back on the pop hunt.

We then had to inch down the Blvd. for about an hour trying to get back home. Will proceeded to thoroughly embarrass me by rolling down the windows, turning up “The Greatest Song In the World” by Jack Black. He then sang along and had hand motions. Yep, embarrassing; but I still love him.

We think Addi has said her first word (other then Dad). She loves to play with these two balls we have. She chases them around, throws them, licks them (trying to stop this gross habit) and lifts them up in the air and says “ball”! It is cute. Generally she can figure out what we want her to do when we say “Find the ball”.

Addi would live on saltine crackers if I let her. She loves them. Whenever she hears the crinkling of the package she gets excited and wont leave you alone until she has one in her hand. I had our bagged packed for the pool and went to go change into my swimming suit. I came out and I found that Addi had broken into the bag. She had her bottle in one hand and the crackers in the other. She had this look on her face of pure delight. I was able to snag a picture before she crawled away to dig into her saltine cracker stash.

This is excellent for my recipe box but not so excellent for my awesome time wasting skills. Through stumbling I have found tons of sweet recipes and a few other random things. My Eater

Addi will eat anything. Really. My Dad said he is unsure that she has taste buds. I am starting to wonder the same thing! Lemons, pickles, sauerkraut and other gross things are among her favorites. One time she refused an avocado. I thought well this is the first food she does not like. Not true, the next time she had it she ate it all up.
The dear child has strep and needed some antibiotics. I picked some up from the antibiotics from the pharmacy and gave her some when we got home. Addi thought it was lovely and wanted more. Then the pharmacy called and said they forgot to mix the flavoring into it. He said it is really awful without any flavor and my baby would probably not drink it so I should come back and get some more. Obviously this disgusting medicine is no problem for this child.
Today I cut up a water melon for her. Addi loved it. She ate a quarter of a giant watermelon.

Hopefully she will continue to love all food as she grows up. Me, on the other hand, I am becoming more picky as I get older. Pickles, celery, fresh bananas, mushrooms, all mushy textured things, artichokes, cilantro, scallops and Swiss cheese are just a few of the foods that I find gross. Butter on the other hand is my new favorite thing (bad). Have you smelled butter lately. Spectacular. Odd, I know.

Blankets!

My aunt and uncle are having twins! A boy and a girl. I am so excited to see these little ones once they are born. I was surfing through the craft blogs (something I often do when I am supposed to be doing homework). I found this blanket. I fell in love. It looked so snuggly so I decided this was the project for the twins. To make this blanket you get four pieces of flannel and pin it all together. The web site suggested to use safety pins. I thought this was super lame and so I used straight pins. Thinking I was going to save a whole lot of time I used straight pins to pin the four layers together. Bad plan. The next step involves sewing diagonal lines 1/2 inch apart of the entire blanket. I got poked a million times during this sewing process. My legs, arms and fingers were covered in pin pricks. After sewing (which takes more hours than I want to count) you have to cut three of the four layers of fabric in between the sewn lines. I was amazed that I did not nick the top piece of fabric during the cutting process. I did not want to even think about how to repair that. After sewing and cutting you sew the binding on. This was a new experience for me. Usually when I make blankets I just fold the bottom fabric up and make a border. It took me some time to get it figured out but I decided I really like how binding looks. Then you toss it in the washing machine and then the dryer. This is to make the cut pieces of material fray and make the snuglyness. This sounds lame but I seriously could not wait to pull them out of the dryer. Oh the softness. I love these blankets. I am considering making a large, Kaitlyn sized one but it may take me three years to get it all sewn. Well now I must get these shipped out.

Summer baby clothes are adorable. The ultimate adorableness is the sandals. I think they are so cute in summer clothes and sandals. Sadly my baby refuses to wear sandals (any shoes or socks for that matter) and would prefer to not wear any clothes. Usually I insist she wears clothes, although when she is with Dad she often runs around with only a diaper. I finally got these sandals on her (she likes to crunch her toes up, making things difficult). She crawled out of her room, into the kitchen and decided that was long enough to have them on.

Random Thoughts

I have had lots of random thoughts on my mind. First of all I am terrified to retire. I know that I am no where near that point in my life but it really scares me. No job, no income. I don’t think I can handle that. The awful thought of retiring fills my mind lots of times a day.

Also, I am having some issues with being frustrated. I am frustrated about things that I can not change but I still want to. I want to do something but I can’t, can’t even really do anything.

I am no good at house work. Awful actually. I hate cleaning the kitchen and the bathtub. I think that it would be excellent if I had a maid to clean my tub.

I am terrible at making friends. I am awkward around new people. I think that I am less awkward when I get to know people but that takes a very long time. I hate that I have lived here for 5 years and seriously don’t have any real friends. I can talk to my patients like no bodies business. I was chatting with one patient and we were having a great conversation, then I found out she used to live right next to me and just moved to the next town. Really. Why couldn’t I have talked to her like this before she moved. I annoy myself.

I really like sewing. I am starting to be more daring (by starting I mean thinking about it). By daring I mean don’t follow a pattern. I am a million percent jealous of those people that can alter things and make things without any directions. Some day I might be that cool.

River Fun

Will’s grandma’s house over looks the Virgin River. Lately, we have seen lots of people floating down it. This seems like a most excellent was to get a nice cool down from this lovely sun. Will called up his sister and they decided to try it out. I had to be the responsible parent and stay with the baby on the shore while they floated down. Apparently it was a little difficult at some points but now will has got all the kinks worked out and when I join him next time we will have no problem.

We played on the grass while we waited for them to make it down. Addison thinks that every rock is one for her to eat and thought it was hilarious when she snuck to the rock bed before I could catch her.

In the third picture you can see some hair. Will keeps on saying that it has grown so much, I am doubtful and think we will have a very bald child for a long time.

Addi enjoyed the water and loved the sand. The first time I sat her down she took a huge handful of mud and shoved it in her mouth. She then proceeded to gag and spit until it was all out (apparently it tasted gross), she never tried to eat it again!

We packed up and headed back to the car. We had to drive up to where they got into the river to retrieve the other vehicle. Said vehicle was located in he middle of a construction site/field. On the way out we blow out a tire. Awesome. All I can say is that it was a good thing that it did not happen on our way back to St. George the day before. We found that we did not have a star wrench thing and had to wait for Will’s brother-in-law to bring us one. While we waited I busted out a towel, crackers and book and me and Addison had a little picnic in middle of an empty field. Eventually they got it taken care off and our worn out baby headed to bed. It was a good day and I see us down at the river many times in the future.

Loren Graduates!

Last week my little sister graduated! Yep, I am starting to feel old. Anyways, she is super smart and graduated with honors and was the a salutatorian. Because of all this she had to give a little speech. In my humble opinion I thought her speech was excellent and the best one ever. She is obsessed with World War II and based her speech on one given by Dwight D. Eisenhower. Once again, it was excellent. I was so proud of her.
Addison’s bed time is 7:30, the graduation ceremony started at 7:30. It took the whole row of family and many “puffs” to keep her entertained.

I still think it is crazy that Loren is off to college. Chaser, is on a mission, Loren is done with high school and little baby Robin is now a senior. I hate growing up. I sincerely wish that we could all be kids again. Anyways, I am excited to see what Loren will do with her life!
I was on the four-wheeler with Robin zipping around the farm. We stopped near the alfalfa field and I looked across the farm. The sprinklers were on in the field. I love that sound. I love turning on the water after moving all the pipes. It is always so beautiful. I mentioned this to Robin that I miss moving pipe (if my dad reads this I am pretty sure I will placed on pipe moving duty when I come visit). She said that she would love to miss it but doing it every day makes it hard. I wanted to try and get a picture to capture the field, the sounds, the smell and everything but I never seemed to have my camera with me. The point of this long story is that I love certain things about my hometown and that farm, and my parents and grandparents are the things that I love the most. I am pretty sure that I was annoyed at my parents each time I had to go help on the farm but now I would not trade it for the world. I learned a lot about how to work and play hard on that farm.
I only managed these pictures from the farm. Addison was not a huge fan of the horse and would latch onto me when I tried to help her pet it.

Cotton Days

I love events, fairs, celebrations anything. I love the food, all the booths, and the whole atmosphere. I lead a boring life. When I found out Cotton Days was coming up I got very excited. I have been looking forward to this for quite some time. Anyways, we started the day off the with parade. Before it started the camera dropped during a handoff. Pieces went flying and we were certain it was broken. My wonderful hubby fiddled with it and it finally worked!

The parade was great. It reminded me of my home town complete with a bunch of old grandpas driving tractors. There was a group of Star Wars characters walking around the streets. This one was one of my patients in dental hygiene school. He makes all sorts of costumes (he made a Bumblee transformer that really transforms from car to machine). He was always telling me about his costumes so it was fun to see them.

Addi thought all the kids running around after were quite hilarious. She kept laughing and clapping. She did get in on some candy gathering action.

After the parade we went to the park to walk around. There was a farm group there that had some goats and a calf for the kids to pet. Addi loved them all and threw a fit when we left.

Eventually She Has to Sleep….. Right?

Baby is sick. Double ear infections. She has been on antibiotics for a few days now so I would hope that the pain would be decreasing. She refuses to sleep. the ears are probably part of the problem but the main problem is that she does not hold still long enough to fall asleep. Before she could crawl she would lay in her crib, maybe fuss a little bit, but she would fall asleep within five minutes. Now, the second I put her down she sits herself up then stands and starts shaking the crib. No matter how tired she is she will not lay down. I can get her to sleep if I lay her on my stomach and hold her tight she she cant move but the moment she hits the mattress she is angry and awake. I have tried to let her just cry it out. Currently she is in her crib, sitting up and making this pathetic, desperate cry. She has been in there for 40 minutes. She is the most stubborn child I know. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. We all need some sleep and a happy baby.

I found this pattern yesterday while on the internet. I thought it was pretty much adorable and thought I would give it a try. First of all, it says to get 1/8 of a yard of fabric. It was enough to do the lining, but you had to get more to make the ribbon. It was not enough for the outside. I was like 8 inches short, so instead of going back to Joanns for the third time I had to get a tad bit creative. This made the whole process take a little longer. If any one makes this hat I highly suggest you buy a little bit more fabric. This is the result

Oh I love it! It does look a little funny when Addi is wearing it though. It said it would fit up to 2T but it looks a bit small.

It is also reversible!

I made this hat because Cotton Days is coming up and we will be at the parade and the park, in the sun all day. Hopefully she wears it. I have a sad feeling that instead of on her head it will be in her hands most of the time.

In other news, Addi is crawling! During our little photo shoot she decided she wanted the video camera and crawled right over to it. She is still a little clumsy but it is so fun to watch. She will be 9 months old in two days and I still can not believe how big she is getting.

This week was National Park Week which equals free admission to the National Park’s. When we started out the day did not look promising. It was windy and looked like rain; but once we got there it was amazing. When we did make it Addison was still asleep. We decided to continue the drive and let her keep sleeping,we drove to through the tunnel (which I am sure that has a name but do not know it). I used to be fearless, well maybe not fearless but…. On the way up to the tunnel I could not stand looking over the edge. Once we got into the tunnel I felt like I could not breathe. It was a tad bit ridiculous and I was annoyed. Apparently my list of things I am afraid of now include tunnels and heights. When we got back to the park we snagged a sweet parking spot and unloaded. Addison had an little sunhat but after the 10th time of picking it up (the socks were often thrown out of the stroller too) I gave up. She did look cute the 7 minutes she had it on.

For some unknown reason the area near the visitor center was covered in caterpillars. It was gross. On some benches you could not see that actual bench surface, it just looked like a mass of wiggling black things. This little guy was apparently not invited to the party. This little girl was trying to feed it a leaf by telling it how yummy it was. She was cute!

We road the bus up to the top of the canyon. Addi kept us and the people around us thoroughly entertained.

We were short on time so we were only able to do a small trail. We walked along the river to were the Narrows trail begins. We were able to see some great scenery.

Addi has this new annoying habit where she attacks peoples faces, especially glasses. We need to stop this habit before I loose an earlobe (apparently earrings are also exciting to pull on).

We had to head up to Salt Lake right after church. We spent the afternoon at temple square. It was a little rainy and cold but it was fun. I have not been to the visitor center for awhile so it was nice to see the new exhibits.

We were able to go to the roof of the conference center. It was pretty cool. The second we were done it started raining. Perfect timing to end the tour but then we had to get to our car which was all the way at Gateway. I placed Will’s jacket over Addi so the wind and rain would not blow in her face. She did not enjoy this at all and lifted up the jacket the entire way to the car.

My dearest child can now sit herself up. Any moment she is going to start crawling. I have an excessive amount of homework to do this weekend. I set her on the floor with toys scattered around. I sat my self on the floor and set up a homework station. Little homework was done. I spent the entire day stopping her from tearing down the entertainment center, getting stuck behind the couch, attacking my books and laptop and ripping out the cords to the surround sound. We must do seriously do something to this house. It is 0% baby friendly. Now that she can get her self in the seated position she can pull herself up to stand. This is generally what I find when I attempt to put her down for a nap. Apparently she has not learned how to sit back down again.

I have been working on this woven rug since November. It was supposed to be my Mom’s Christmas present. She finally got it yesterday. Yep, I am super slow.

To make this rug you get bags and bags of t-shirts and proceed to cut them into one inch strips and weave them together. This was my weaving corner (I feel like a hoarder when I look at this picture).

Addi is probably sad to see the rug leave. She loved to play with all the strips of material.

So I was reading someone's blog awhile ago, or maybe it was an article, not really sure; anyways it was talking about how people represent them self different on their blog then they are in real life. They only show the happy, fun, perfect things that go on. Only great pictures with everyone smiling, only happy thoughts. They said that this is a major flaw in blogs. People say they use them as a journal for their family. But what family is full of smiling and giggles. Anyways, I have decided to start being more real on my blog. Showing the good the bad and the ugly of my family. So in an attempt to do this here is my hair when I fall asleep with it wet. This is not really a grand attempt at trying to be more real but hey it’s a start.

I love spring. The sun is shining, warm enough to lay outside with a book and get a tan but not hot enough to get completely drenched with sweat the minute you step outside. I also love spring because Addison gets to wear the cutest outfits. Lots of shorts and skirts. My Mom’s gave Addi this adorable spring dress and I love it!

A Trip to Monticello

Last weekend my Aunt was headed to Monticello. Me and Addison decided to tag along. It was ~~cold~~ freezing there. I had packed the stroller in hopes that we could go walking with my mom; if we had attempted it I am certain we would have blown away. My parents recently got a new puppy. Tess is a mix of a rat terrier and a jack Russell (I think). Addison was super excited when she saw her. Amazingly Tess was really good with Addi. Addi would pull on her ears and tug on her legs put Tess did not mind at all. I am glad they got along so well together. It was a tad tricky making sure that they were not chewing each others toys!

Lately I have started reading again. In the past I had not had much time (really I still don’t have too much time; I just procrastinate homework!). The two latest books that I have loved are Chains and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society. Both of these books are historical fiction. I have decided this is the genre that I like the most. I spent quite some time snuggled up with Tess reading and reading. I wanted to take Tess home with me. She is so snuggly and little.

While I was reading Addison was constantly entertaining everyone around. She is so goofy and such a personality.

After a few failed attempts I finally made some decent loaves of bread. It is a pretty simple recipe but I think it tastes spectacular!

I got the recipe here. It seemed to take me all day to make it (I am a super slow cooker, especially when I have no clue what I am doing). I think I might attempt every few weeks.

Lazy Days

I love Sundays. We go to church, come home eat lunch and then just hang out. Usually delicious, chocolately haystacks are involved too. Addi has a slight obsession with pop cans; not quite sure why. Don’t worry the can is empty. She spent the say snuggling with Will and yelling into the can.

Sidenote: my child hates the camera; I always get this grump face when she sees the camera. Sad huh.

Idaho Visit

Will’s niece was baptized and his nephew as blessed last weekend up in Idaho. We made a last minute decision to head up there. This was our first excursion with the CNG truck. It took us a little bit of time to figure out where all the CNG stations were located but it was so nice to not have to pay $50 to fill the tank.
One night we went to a bowling alley in Rexburg. We had lots of fun. They had a DJ there that played some really good music and had some fun games to play in order to win prizes. I had to bow out of the competition towards the end because Addi was done with it all. I stole away into the pro shop and snuggled her until the rest of the family was done.

We were able to stay at Will’s brothers house while we were there. The first night Addi saw one of the dogs and freaked out. She started crying hysterically and would instantly burst into tears whenever she caught a glimpse of a dog or cat. The next morning she had a change of attitude and found the dogs super exciting. When ever she saw one she would start flapping her arms and laughing. Will held her on her lap and played fetch with Cracker. Addison found this completely hysterical.

We had lots of fun playing and handing out with family.

Getting Big

Addison is now seven months old! She is getting humongous. We went to the doctor a few days ago for a check up and she is in the 90th percentile in height! She is wearing 12 month clothes right now. She is getting more talkative and expressive every day. All we heard before was just random squeaks but now she is making actually word noises. Will is sure that she says dada. I am still undecided on that one. A few things about our baby girl

        -Addi can roll over both ways now
        -She is becoming mobile which terrifies me; I left her alone for a few minutes and she had rolled across the floor and was attacking an X-box (this weekend will consist of baby proofing!)
        -She can sorta clap her hands together
        -She has waved goodbye to me a few times
        -She knows who I am; I love going to pick her up from daycare and see that smiling face when she spots me
        -She loves solids; graham crackers are her absolute favorite thing ever
        -Her current favorite toys are Dad’s sunglass, an alphabet puzzle and strings/cords

        -She loves to sit in her Bumbo and talk as I cook and listen to our country Pandora station.
        -Tummy time is now not as awful as it has been in the past. She now plays with some toys and pushes herself up a bit.
        -Church is becoming ridiculous. She gets so excited about all the new people and stuff and wants to eat it all. I am always trying to contain her as she squirms all over me.
        -She does this odd swimming motion when she is on her stomach; I think that she will learn to swim before she learns to crawl!
        I can not believe how fast this time has gone and how much she has grown. I was bathing her today and watching her as she played with her toys. Just a few months ago she would have been a screaming little newborn hating the water. Times flies. I miss the snuggly little newborn but love the playful girl I have now.

Love Them

So first of all I never know what to put as the title of my posts. It takes me forever to decide and they end up being lame.

Anyways, as much as I complain about my life I love it. Today I got home from a hard day of work. Addi was grumpy and Will was tired. While Will changed Addi into her pajamas I laid down on the floor. I suggested a book before bed. Will started reading a Winnie the Pooh book to Addi. I sat there just looking at my baby and her daddy. Then I heard the name Ferguson. I took over the reading from there (apparently Will’s eyes are not what they used to be and he saw Ferguson when it said Eeyore). After the book Addi and Will played with this odd blue teddy bear he won for me in Vegas. Addison was laughing hysterically and Will was all smiles. I laid there watching them. I love my little family. These moments make up for all the crying, laundry and messes.

Then Will made the bed and announced that he even put the pillow sheets on. Who calls pillow cases pillow sheets? Really.

Girls State Basketball

This weekend Addison and I went to the glorious town of Richfield. They had only one game each day (which I think is a bit lame), so we had lots of time to hang out. My Mom and I had the daily walks down Main street and went into every little shop. We ate at all the little restaurants and found some pretty good ones. Pepper Belly's is delicious. It is decorated really cute and has sweet pork and fried ice cream, what more could a person want.

We stayed at the Travel Lodge in town. In case you ever happen to stay there (I suggest you don’t) be aware that you must request maid service and be in the room whenever they decide to show up and clean it. We had some issues!

Sadly the girls lost their third game on Friday. We stuck around for the Championship game because Loren was awarded the Academic All State Award at half time.

Even though we enjoyed these courtside seats, we found that Addison does not quite work well with them. A bottle may have been thrown onto the court during the game (I quickly rescued it)!

Even Addi enjoyed Pepper Belly’s!

We practiced clapping all weekend. She can sort of, not really do it. She looks like an extremely drunk person attempting to clap. It is pretty much adorable.

She is now amazed with hoodie strings. She holds on to them like horse reigns. My mom was always frozen so she wore hoodies. Addi loved to play with her. One night she apparently decided that she did not need to sleep. She played with my Mom and Robin for a long time (I am doing this post in the hotel room and she is not asleep).

I learned that Robin loves the Dollar Store. We went and she stocked up on nail polish and then proceeded to pain all the nails, including, Addison's.

I enjoyed our girls weekend and Addison loved all the attention!

Will is a complete goofball. The following is a conversation we had last night:
Will: We should make a secret language some time.
Me: I am pretty sure that will take a lot of time.
Will: yea but we pretty much have forever
Me: Um, alrighty. Whats the first word.
Will: Well we have options. We could do like clicks and grunts or vowel sounds.
He then made some odd noises which he declared meant "T". He made about 9 seconds of more odd noises and said "that is the word, the".
If it takes this long to say "the" I am pretty sure it would take a very long time to have any sort of conversation.
If we ever do invent a secret language I will be sure to let you know :)

The Woes of Church

(this post is pretty much just me going on and on; you have been warned)

I would like to publicly apologize to all the people in Relief Society that have to hear my child make monkey noises the entire time. I don't know what her deal is. We go to church at nine. Her regular nap time is 10:00 so during Sunday school she gets angry, I walk around the building a thousand times and she finally takes a twenty minute nap. Then she is ready to play when she wakes up in Relief Society. She makes this lovely monkey noise when she wants something; and there are so many exciting things to hold and eat that she goes crazy. Today we sat by a lady that was holding a seven week old baby. His was kicking his feet and this caught Addison's attention. She dove head first for his poor little feet and managed to get her mouth on one of them before I intervened. For ten whole minutes she did whatever she could, while making monkey noises, to reach the babies feet. In the middle of all this I looked up to the little pulpit thing and noticed something odd. Covering up the microphone was Addison's black and white sock that we had lost the Sunday before. I thought that that was an extremely weird place to put a lost sock. The lady giving the lesson did not seem to notice or care that she was taking into a baby sock. At the end of the meeting I completely spaced it and we left again with one sock. Hopefully it will still be keeping the microphone warm next week!
So today the lesson was about focusing on the most important things in life. It was said that you should not worry so much about your house not being clean or your homework not being done but more about the time you are able to spend with family. I completely agree with this but where is the line. Much to my Mom's surprise I am sure, I don't like sitting and watching a movie or playing a game when the dishes are not done. I hate when the living room is messy because on the rare occasion that someone stops by they will be able to see the mess I live in. I am having issues defining the line between getting chores and such done and spending time doing other things. I definitely do not want to end up like the people on Hoarders.

J Bird and the Bear

My Aunt went out of town following wrestling tournaments which left her little girl Jael (also known as J Bird) all alone. Jael came over to hang out with me and the Addi bear for the night. Jael loves to play with Addison. We had a great time cooking cookies, playing with the Addi and while I got my hair cut, Jael got her first manicure.

It was so nice to have someone there that was always ready to entertain and play with Addi.

Diaper Boxes

Addi can sit up but randomly she will throw herself backwards which leads to crying. I prop her up with the Bobby and she stays up but throws her toys so they are out or her reach. She will then try to reach them which generally causes her to fall on her stomach which leads to crying. The solution: a Pampers diaper box. It is the perfect fit for her little legs. She can not tip over (don't worry I tested it out); all of her toys stay right there next to her which leads to happiness for both me and her!

Since the original post improvements have been made to the box. I cut a foot hole so she can stretch out all the way.

I Got Skills

So my aunt is attempting to make me crafty. I have always wanted to be crafty and usually I fail miserably. While she was helping make Will's Dixie quilt I mentioned that my Dad loves denim quilts and that I should maybe make one for him some time. She told me I should get one done for Christmas. I decided I could do a simple denim quilt with just squares sewn together. While I was going through her piles of fabric I stumbled upon my Dad's old K-9 Utah Highway Patrol uniforms. Kristen said she had been saving them to do a quilt but that I might as well do it for my Christmas quilt. She sent me home with the shirts and graphing paper to plan out my quilt. I am proud to say that I did the entire thing from planning to cutting to sewing (I did have some help quilting during our marathon quilting day). I always get so scared when I cut things. I measured and remeasured the center piece for about an hour before I finally made the first cut. I eventually got more comfortable with it and things started moving along. I ran into a few problems during the process but I figured out how to fix it all by myself. There are a few things that I would of done different but now I know for next time I guess. It is not even close to perfect but I am pretty impressed with my self.

Idaho Christmas

For Christmas this year we drove up to Idaho. We had to make a few stops along the way and it ended up taking us twelve hours to get there. We were so happy to finally make it there. Along the way we stopped to eat and Will let Addison drink water out of his cup. She loved it. She would hold the cup, bring it up to her mouth and lick the water like a puppy. It was cute!

It was started snowing so we took Addi out to be in her first snow storm. She was unaware as to what was going on but whatever. And yes she is in a snow storm with no socks or hat or coat on. We are neglectful parents.

Even though it appears she has no clothes appropirate for snow she does have this coat little coat. For some reason the hood is humongous and has the ability to cover her entire face.

Addi's favorite part of Christmas was the wrapping paper and ribbons. I had to keep an eye on her to make sure she did not eat too much paper.

We were able to go to my aunt and uncles house in Rexburg for dinner one night. Katie is an amazing cook; I love it when they invite us for dinner! They have two wild and adorable boys and a cute little baby girl. The boys showed me and Will all their toys. They had a foam airplane that they loved to throw to Will. Addi and Jade hung out together in the crib for awhile. Addi did not seem to notice Jade was even there until she realized that if she got close to her she could suck on her hand. It was fun to get to visit them and hang out for a bit.

We had a great Christmas spending time with the family!

The Current Status of Will's Health

Last Saturday or Sunday (we can't exactly recall) Will said that his foot was a little sore. I took a look and said that it looked like he had a sliver. Will's sister looked at it and tried to find out if there was a sliver but she saw nothing. Pretty much we told him to suck it up and carry on. The next few days he complained that it was getting more sore. It was more swollen and red so I put some Neosporin on it. On Wednesday afternoon Will decided to go to Instacare. (I am an awful wife and thought he was over reacting) The doctor said he thought there was a little sliver in there and he would get it out. He numbed Will's foot and started digging, He then proceeds to pull out an inch of wire. Will is unsure how this got into his foot with out him feeling it. Needless to say he has a pretty nasty Staph infection after having wire in his foot for four days. His second toe is swollen like a fat sausage and the top and bottom of his foot is red and swollen. He can barely walk so he has spent yesterday and today in the recliner with his foot propped up.
We were planning to head to Monticello today but due to the foot and the weather it was postponed. Hopefully both will be better in the morning.

Well since the original post date we have returned to the hospital and have not made it to Monticello. Last night the foot became more swollen with red streaks in it. This morning we headed to the hospital. The doctor ordered an x-ray to see if there might be more metal in there. Luckily there was not. The doctor said he was worried about how quickly the infection had spread even though he had been on some pretty strong antibiotics. A culture was ordered but the doctor said we needed to do something about the infection before the culture results were ready. Will received IV antibiotic therapy and has to head back for more tomorrow. Hopefully this IV stuff will get every thing under control. Early Christmas

     We are going to Idaho for Christmas and there was no way that we were going to be able to take the Addi as well as the presents. We opted to open presents early instead of leave the Addi bear :). Addi got toys from Grandma and Grandpa that she loves to look at. She is not quite old enough to work them properly but she loves it when they make noises and flash lights. My dear Will got me a camera and a baby sling. I love the camera. The sling took a bit to get used to but now both me and Addison like it. Its nice having two hands and still being able to carry Addison.   My parents gave me some shelves so finally I will have some sort of decorations on my walls!
      For Christmas I made Will this quilt out of some of his Dixie State t-shirts. I had to go to my aunts house for many many hours to get this done. Once I finally got it all sewed together we had to quilt it. My aunt has a friend who let us use her basement to set the quilt frame up. We quilting for 13 hours that day and finished hand quilting three pretty big quilts. My finger tips were bruised for days after. I have found that I really enjoy quilting and making something sweet out of stuff.

After opening presents we wrapped up in blankets watched movies and napped the rest of the day.

It was lovely.

Now to pack for the freezing cold Idaho weather.

Rolly Polly

Addi can now roll from her back to her stomach. I am happy that she has reached this milestone but slightly annoyed at the same time. She hates being on her stomach. I will place her on her play mat thing and she will be very happy reaching for the dangling parrot until she rolls over. I have to stop whatever useful thing I am doing to go flip her back over. A few minutes later I hear the traumatic cries of the baby stuck on her stomach. I can not wait until she figures out how to roll back to her back.

Changing Tables and an Adorable Sunday Dress

Addi loves her changing table. Not quite sure why but whenever you put her on it she is gets super happy and talks and talks. Sometimes I just leave her there for awhile and read my book in her rocking chair. She always grabs her feet and sucks on her hand the minute I set her down.

She finally fits into this cute little Sunday dress. I just love it!

By the way, if you could not already tell, I am having severe issues making the pictures be where I want them to be in a post. Anyone that is smarter then me let me know how to better arrange my pictures and text because it is driving me nuts.

Babies Make Me Crazy

Lately I have been super emotional and I don't know why. Today I have cried while watching Downsized, reading the paper, shopping at Wal-Mart, looking at the Christmas tree and reading "Are You My Mommy" to Addi. I have been like this ever since Addison was born. Maybe my hormones have been permanently placed on the emotional side. Anyways, I have been squeezing Addi into her 3 month onesies because I just can't let go. By the way she is in the 75th percentile in the height chart so I am pretty certain the 0-3 month onesies are just too small. Yesterday I put her pajamas on and she could not stretch her legs out all the way cause the legs were too short. I am attempting to sort her clothes and put the too small ones in a box but it is not quite working out. Please tell me I am not the only crazy one that can't put adorable pajamas and onesies in a box without breaking down.

Oh Christmas Tree

I think my favorite thing about Christmas is the Christmas tree. It is so beautiful and simple. I would love to leave it up all year but people would probably start thinking I was a crazy. My favorite thing to do is make a pile of blankets and pillows and snuggle up under the tree and read a book. Our trees are always simple with just a few ornaments but I love it.

This is Addison's ornament. We got it last year when we found out I was pregnant. Its hard to see but its a little peanut.

Every year we buy a new ornament. Currently I am obsessed with jingle bells so this is the one I picked for this year.
